Band
Band Director: Mrs. Beth MacLeod
What instruments can my student play?
When beginning in our band program, recommended instruments are flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and percussion. However, if you’d like to consider another instrument (oboe, bassoon, baritone, French horn, etc), we can work with you on that.
What does it look like to be in band?
Each student receives weekly small group time with Mrs. MacLeod, our band director, during school hours. They also participate in weekly whole-group rehearsals, once they have learned enough notes and are ready for that.
Opportunities to perform (once joining our whole-group band) include Grandparent’s Day, Nursing Home Visits, Christmas Program, Spring Music Contest, Pep Band at basketball games, Talent Show, and more!
What do I need to be in band?
Quality Instrument – renting is a good way to start.
Buying used online is an option, however these instruments aren’t always the best quality, which can make learning to play harder.
Mrs. MacLeod can help you with instrument rental information if needed.
Reeds, slide grease, valve oil, other instrument specific needs
Tradition of Excellence Book 1 (for your specific instrument)
Can be bought at most music stores and online
What are the next steps?
The cost for band is $350 for the year ($35/month for Aug - May).
